Initially scheduled for December 28, 2019, then repeatedly postponed, this double ballot will not be held this Sunday, March 15, confirmed a senior official of the CENI, the Independent National Electoral Commission.

At the end of February, President Alpha Condé had announced a two-week postponement of these elections under pressure from the opposition and the international community, who raised concerns about the electoral lists.

Over two million voters with “ problematic names

Experts from the ECOWAS therefore looked into the electoral lists, one of the grounds for the dispute. " We have not yet received the report from ECOWAS experts, the chairman of the independent national electoral commission said on Tuesday ," Amadou Salifou Kébé.

A new date for the holding of these polls is now suspended at the end of the consolidation of the file.

The International Organization of La Francophonie - which supports the electoral process in Guinea - deemed nearly 2.5 million names of voters on the lists of duplicates and deceased persons to be "problematic".
