The American Mikaela Shiffrin, absent since the sudden death of her father, will make a good comeback in the Alpine Skiing World Cup during the last winter races in Are (Sweden) from Thursday to Saturday, she announced on his social networks.

"Are held a special place in my heart since the beginning of my career, it seems to me that this is the right place to find the family of the World Cup circuit and try to run again," she said. wrote Tuesday.

The skier, who turns 25 on Friday, has not appeared in competition since the Bansko (Bulgaria) stage from 24 to 26 January.

She skipped the Rosa Khutor (Russia) test to focus on training, then the Vail native returned to Colorado after the sudden death of her father Jeff (65) on February 3.

Shiffrin therefore also missed the stages of Garmisch (Germany), Kranjska Gora (Slovenia) and Crans Montana (Switzerland).

"However my heart remains broken so I will limit my interactions with the media, spectators and other competitors," she warned.

The two-time Olympic champion and five-time world champion announced her return to Europe last week, but said she was unsure if she could return to competition.

Largely at the top of the general classification at the end of January and on the way to a 4th consecutive coronation, Shiffrin was overtaken by the Italian Federica Brignone on which she is 153 points behind.

There are only three races left, the finals planned in Italy having been canceled due to the epidemic of new coronavirus.

Getting back on Brignone seems difficult but not impossible, Shiffrin being able to win the three races planned: a parallel giant on Thursday, a giant on Friday and a slalom on Saturday.
