The US Central Command, Gen. Kenneth McKinsey, said today, Tuesday, that the United States is sending air defense systems to Iraq to protect American soldiers in the event of any Iranian attack.

"We are also sending air defense and anti-ballistic missile defense systems to Iraq in particular, to protect ourselves from any other possible Iranian attack," McKinsey said at a session of the House Armed Services Committee.

He pointed out that Iran has persevered in strengthening its arsenal of ballistic missiles despite international condemnation, adding that Washington's goal is to place forces in the region with operational depth to deter Iran.

On the other hand, the US Central Command considered that the Idlib conflict limits the ability of Al Qaeda and the Islamic State to attack us, but it has terrible humanitarian consequences.

The Pentagon has said that it is seeking permission from Iraq to transfer Patriot missile defense systems there to enhance defense of US forces after an Iranian missile attack on January 8.
