From our correspondent in Rio de Janeiro,

" Listen, macho, Latin America will be entirely feminist! »Warn the demonstrators marching along Rio Branco avenue in the center of Rio . Nadia Bonfim, 43, painted a red handprint on her face. " It is to denounce the ultra high rate of feminicides in Brazil, " she explains.

In 2019, the number of feminicides increased in the country, with 1,314 victims. Nadia recalls that machismo kills: “ Relations of oppression, when the man wants to decide how the woman can dress, how she can speak… All this is no longer possible. We've had enough ! So men have to wake up, because it doesn't depend only on us, but on them too! "

Fight against " this conservative wave "

In the march, we also hear slogans against the government of Jair Bolsonaro . Wescla Vasconcelos, young transsexual woman, walks with her friends, fist raised: " It is a fight against this conservative wave, this policy of hatred and decline of human rights, and the lack of public policies to combat violence against women in Brazil! "

The demonstrators also pay tribute to Marielle Franco , human rights activist and LGBT murdered on March 14, 2018. This Saturday March 14, the women will once again take to the streets to demand justice.
