March 10, 2020 U.S. President Donald Trump has not been tested for the new coronavirus despite shaking hands and traveling together on Air Force One with two Republican MPs exposed to the infection. The White House has made it known, stating that there is no need since the American president has no symptoms and it is not confirmed that the two deputies have been infected.

Two GOP deputies who have been in close contact with Trump in recent days have placed themselves in quarantine because they came into contact with an infected person. Matt Gaetz (Florida) and Doug Collins (Georgia) have been in self-imposed isolation for two weeks since Monday (as recommended by the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the CDC, for anyone who has come into contact with the virus). Both MEPs said they were asymptomatic. Gaetz flew with Trump on Air Force One, from Orlando to Washington, and in the air he was informed that he had had contact with a person, who later became infected, during the CPAC, an event in Maryland of the Republican Party, last month , which was also attended by Trump and his deputy, Mike Pence. Collins shook Trump's hand last Friday at Atlanta airport when they both visited the CDC.

Donald Trump's newly appointed chief of staff, Mark Meadows , voluntarily quarantined after meeting a coronavirus-positive person. Meadowos is among several Republican MPs who attended Trump's Conservative Political Action (CPAC) conference last week with Trump and Vice President Mike Pence where a person tested positive. His office said Meadows was negative and that quarantine is a precautionary measure.

President Donald Trump promises "a sharp cut" in the tax wedge as an economic response to the coronavirus. "Tomorrow we will ask the Senate, we will meet Republican MEPs, Mitch McConnell, all concerned to discuss possible payroll tax cuts, substantial aid," he said during a press conference. "We will also talk about hourly wages by making sure that no one is left without a paycheck," added Trump.
