Italy has decided on containment measures for more than 15 million inhabitants in the north of the country, adding to the list of places, cities and provinces which have opted for quarantine measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the world .

Confined cities and provinces, cruise ships kept offshore, isolation of travelers: like Italy, which has decided to isolate 15 million people in the north of its territory, several countries have implemented quarantine measures since l appearance of the new coronavirus. In China, 50 million people confined

About 50 million people are stranded in towns and villages in Hubei province under a health cordon set up in late January. This is the case for the capital city Wuhan, where the coronavirus appeared in December.
Across the country, different types of quarantine, more or less extensive, are in place (at home or in another place, with the possibility of leaving your apartment or not).

Beijing has also imposed since February 26 a quarantine of 14 days for travelers from countries "seriously affected" by the epidemic.

In Italy, fourteen isolated provinces

The government took decree on Sunday to contain more than 15 million people in the north of the country, valid until April 3. In the Lombardy region and in fourteen Italian provinces, a vast area from Milan to Venice, entry and exit are now strictly limited.

Eleven municipalities in Lombardy and Veneto had already been quarantined on February 23.

In Vietnam, 10,000 people in quarantine

In mid-February, a commune of 10,000 inhabitants near Hanoi, Son Loi, was placed in quarantine for twenty days after the discovery of six cases.

In North Korea, partially lifted quarantines

3,650 people who were in quarantine in the provinces of Kangwon and Chagang were authorized on March 5 to resume a normal life. Home quarantine has been imposed since the beginning of February on 380 foreigners residing in the country, recently lifted for 221 of them.

The country has suspended air and rail links with the outside world and banned the arrival of foreign tourists.

A liner confined off San Francisco

The Diamond Princess was quarantined off Yokohama near Tokyo with 3,711 people on board, as of February 5. Hundreds of cases of coronavirus infection have developed there and several governments have decided to evacuate their nationals who appear to be healthy and place them for fourteen days in quarantine in their respective countries. The rest of the passengers began to disembark after 14 days, but the crew members only started in late February.

The Grand Princess liner has been confined off San Francisco with 3,533 passengers and crew for the past few days. The passengers most affected must start disembarking Monday in Oakland (northern California) to be treated, the crew must be placed in quarantine and treated on board.

Special measures for travelers

Several countries or territories have taken action on arrivals from China and from countries with large numbers of cases, such as Iran, South Korea or Italy. For example, the Hong Kong authorities on February 8 imposed a two-week quarantine on any traveler from mainland China, the recalcitrant incurring six months in prison.

Israel has imposed since the beginning of March a quarantine of two weeks for travelers from France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain and Austria, after restrictions for Italy and several Asian countries. Non-residents from these countries are forbidden to enter, unless they prove that they have a place of isolation.

Japan announced on March 5 that anyone arriving in the archipelago and having recently stayed in China or South Korea should spend 14 days in quarantine. In El Salvador, entry is now prohibited to arrivals from Germany and France, after China, South Korea, Italy and Iran. Salvadoran citizens or diplomatic personnel must respect a quarantine of 30 days.
