On March 2, Cai Taoying, a 46-year-old Wuhan nurse, walked into the Wuhan Blood Center. She rolled up her cuffs and donated 400 ml of plasma.

This was only 14 days after her last donation of plasma. As a patient recovering from New Crown Pneumonia, Cai Taoying donated a total of 800 ml of plasma.

In Wuhan and even the whole country, a relay race on the plasma of new crown pneumonia patients is underway. As of March 5th, 919 people across the country have donated 294,450 ml of plasma, and more than 10 rehabilitated patients in Wuhan have donated plasma twice in a row.

To them, this is a gift with a temperature of life that conveys love, health and hope.

"Can't get on the battlefield, but also contribute meager power"

Cai Taoying, 46, is a nurse in the Department of Endocrinology, Wuhan Hankou Hospital.

"I should have been infected during work." Cai Taoying recalled that around January 16th, she had treated a wholesale fever patient in her department, and several of them were subsequently diagnosed with new coronary pneumonia.

On January 18, Cai Taoying developed symptoms of general weakness, fever, and loss of appetite, especially her eyelids were sore.

Unlike others, Cai Taoying had not coughed until she recovered, which also made her not think about neocoronary pneumonia at first, and she was not diagnosed until she passed the lung CT on January 21.

The moment she was diagnosed, Cai Taoying was in a very bad mood. Her biggest worry was what to do if her family was infected?

Because Cai Taoying was usually keen on fitness exercises, her condition was not serious, and she was quickly controlled after hospitalization. However, on the day she was discharged on January 30, bad news came—her husband working in the hospital's radiology department was diagnosed.

The news hit Cai Taoying very hard. "I was crying while answering my husband's phone, and I couldn't speak at all."

Her husband had a high fever for two weeks, which made Cai Taoying very scared. This is one of the reasons why she decided to donate plasma after her recovery. "I have seen a lot of families in the hospital because of the death of this sick family. I also experienced the despair of my husband when he was diagnosed. I don't want this tragedy to happen again.

Cai Taoying and her husband are both fixed and unpaid blood donors. Before the outbreak, the two participated in 84 and 60 unpaid blood donations (including component blood and whole blood donations), respectively.

On February 17, Cai Taoying came to Wuhan Blood Center and donated 400 ml of plasma. This time the mood is completely different. She said that as a front-line medical staff, she should have been on the "battlefield." " Since I can't get on, I will also contribute my modest strength in other ways. "

After the first plasma donation, Cai Taoying soon returned to the front line. She felt that the donation of plasma had no effect on her body. After seeing the news that donations can be made every 14 days, on March 2 Cai Taoying donated another 400 milliliters of plasma, becoming the first "Elian Plasma Donor" in Wuhan.

Cai Taoying feels that helping one is one. As long as the epidemic needs, she will continue to donate. Fortunately, her husband is also currently discharged from hospital and is undergoing quarantine for the next 14 days. After the quarantine period has passed, he will also join in plasma donation.

"We can eat and drink, and we can save people, of course."

Tang Liqin, 54, and Tang Lijun, 49, are sisters and brothers from Henan.

Tang Lijun has been in Wuhan for almost ten years. He is a merchant in the South China Seafood Market and runs a seafood business. He likes this warm, straightforward city. Tang Liqin arrived in Wuhan last July to make a living by cooking.

In November last year, Tang Liqin developed chest tightness. She thought that she was too old and didn't take it seriously. Since January 6, Tang Liqin has a fever for two or three days, and has a sore throat and a sore leg. After the fever was reduced by the infusion, she drank Lianhua Qingwen granules for some time, and her symptoms including chest tightness were not completely eliminated until early February.

Tang Lijun had more severe symptoms than her sister. In addition to having a fever, she also had a bloating discomfort. After being admitted to the Department of Gastroenterology, Wuhan Red Cross Hospital, she was diagnosed with new crown pneumonia.

While at home, Tang Liqin watched the news every day, saw the hardships of the medical staff, and saw the patient's painful death. She was anxious, "I have no culture and want to help, but I have no ability."

After Tang Lijun was discharged from the hospital, he told his sister that the plasma of the recovered person could help the severely ill. Tang Liqin didn't really understand the difference between blood donation and plasma donation, but she thought that since it can save people, why not try it?

On February 13, Tang Liqin and his brother went to the Wuhan Blood Center together. Tang Liqin was informed after consultation that the symptoms previously coincided with the new crown pneumonia and there were antibodies in the body, so the sisters and brothers each donated 400 ml of plasma.

After donating, Tang Liqin felt no change in his body. After seeing the news that there are still many patients with severe illness in Wuhan, the sisters and brothers donated plasma again on March 3.

For her kindness, Tang Liqin thought, "This is nothing to say." In her opinion, this is a normal thing that can no longer be normal. "We are idle at home, we can eat and drink, and our bodies are fine, we can Of course we have to save people. "

"Plasma donation is really harmless to the human body"

"The second donation of blood plasma, I hope we can help more patients." On the 4th, doctors Xu Delong and Zhou Min of Wuhan Fourth Hospital, as new patients with new coronary pneumonia, sent photos of their second blood donation to "four The "COVID-19 Hot-Blood Group in the Hospital", the group became lively again, and everyone liked it.

"The two guys have a good rest. Tomorrow we have 4 colleagues coming to relay." Group leader Yang Hong urged. She is the director of the emergency department of Wusheng Road District of Wuhan Fourth Hospital and the founder of the "Four Hospital COVID-19 Hot Blood Group".

When she was grouped on February 14, Yang Hong was still a hospitalized patient with new coronary pneumonia. At that time, there were only 6 colleagues in the group, and now there are 26 hospital staff. All of them are newcomers with coronal pneumonia who have donated plasma during recovery period or plan to donate plasma after isolation.

Xu Delong, a 31-year-old rehabilitation medicine physician, had discussed the feasibility of this approach with colleagues long before the introduction of plasma therapy. Therefore, after the diagnosis and treatment plan was announced, Xu Delong and Zhou Min, a 30-year-old orthopedist who ran a marathon, became the first plasma donors.

Xu Delong recalled that he had symptoms on January 15 and was diagnosed on January 23. Because the bed was tight and his symptoms were not severe, he chose to take medicine at home for isolation and treatment. On the morning of February 18th, Xu Delong and Zhou Min, who had recovered for 14 days, came to Wuhan Blood Center and each donated 400 ml of plasma.

Xu Delong belongs to the underweight person. Before that, he had donated 200 ml of blood once. This was the first time he donated 400 ml of plasma. "I was a little bit upset. I found no problems at the back, and the doctor at the blood center told me that I had higher antibodies in the body, so I gave another 400 ml after 14 days."

At present, many patients with new coronary pneumonia have actively donated plasma, but some people are concerned about whether it will affect the body. Xu Delong said that the donation of blood plasma is of little harm to the human body, because red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets will be re-transfused back to the donor after the plasma is separated.

Director Chen Hanwei of Wuhan Blood Center told reporters that donors donate 200-400 ml of plasma at one time and donate once every 14 days. Plasma donation by rehabilitators will not affect the body, but for patients with new coronary pneumonia, plasma treatment is The necessary choice.

When talking about Wuhan, Zhong Nanshan had tears in his eyes. He said, "This is a heroic city." And the heroic city is precisely because there are such heroic people.

The blood is tingling, life is love. Come on in Wuhan! Go China! (Finish)
