March 07, 2020 Prison detention in prison for George Patrick Zaky, the Egyptian student from the University of Bologna arrested in February at Cairo airport, as soon as he returned to Egypt, for subversive propaganda on Facebook, was renewed for another 15 days. His lawyer Hoda Nasrallah has made it known. The decision was made after a hearing at the Cairo State Security Prosecutor's Office. Italian, EU and Swiss diplomats were present in the prosecutor's office.

One of two lawyers defending the 27-year-old, Walid Hassan, already on Wednesday had predicted that an extension was "90% likely". The odds then increased after learning about Patrick Zaky's transfer from Mansura Public Prison to the Tora Prison Complex on the southern outskirts of Cairo last Thursday.

The procedures for entering the High Security Court of the State, located in the Fifth Settlement, about fifteen kilometers as the crow flies from Tora, were very strict. Patrick, according to the defense on the basis of a 'fake' Facebook account, is accused, among other things, of "instigation to violence and terrorist crimes". As early as February 22, the Mansoura court had decided to confirm the detention for 27-year-old Zaky in prison, rejecting the request for release released by his lawyers.
