(Combating new crown pneumonia) Zhong Nanshan's team builds the world's first non-transgenic mouse model of new crown pneumonia

China News Network, Guangzhou, March 6th (Cai Minjie) The State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Diseases of Guangzhou Medical University released on the 6th that under the guidance of Academician Zhong Nanshan of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the laboratory ’s deputy director Zhao Jincun's research team and other researchers established the first non-GMO Neonatal pneumonia in a mouse animal model.

According to reports, this model has a shorter construction period than traditional animal models of transgenic mice with receptors. No breeding is needed, and it is suitable for large-scale popularization in a short period of time. The establishment of this model can alleviate the lack of animal models in the study of new coronavirus in China, and is conducive to the emergency in vivo verification of Chinese antiviral drugs and protective neutralizing antibodies and vaccines. In addition, the model can also be used to study the immune response and pathogenic mechanism of late novel coronaviruses in vivo.

The above non-transgenic mouse model of new coronavirus pneumonia was established by Zhao Jincun's research team in conjunction with the National Key Laboratory of Biosafety Testing (P3 Laboratory) of Guangzhou Customs Technology Center, Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Guangdong Experimental Animal Monitoring Institute . It has been verified that the new coronavirus can replicate at high titers in the lungs of mice, and the clinical and pathological manifestations of pneumonia appear in mice.

At present, Zhao Jincun's research team is conducting in-depth research on animal models to deepen the understanding of the influencing factors of new coronaviruses in vivo and fill in the blanks of relevant key scientific issues. (Finish)
