"Vladimir Putin informed Bashar Assad of the agreements reached during the Russian-Turkish summit held on March 5," the statement said.

As noted, the Russian leader emphasized that their implementation will stabilize the situation in the Idlib de-escalation zone.

Assad, in turn, praised the outcome of the negotiations between Moscow and Ankara and expressed gratitude to Putin for his support in the fight against terrorists.

The talks between Putin and Erdogan over the aggravation of the situation in Idlib were held on Thursday, March 5, in Moscow. Following the meeting, a joint document was adopted.

The parties agreed to jointly patrol the M4 highway, which is controlled by militants.

Erdogan said the agreement paves the way for stabilization and normalization in the region.
