Several cases of coronavirus have been detected in the National Assembly, but this alert came just hours before the parliamentary break in the municipal elections. Result: apart from a few deputies, the Bourbon Palace is almost deserted, and the institution stopped.

REPORTAGE

The coronavirus also reached the National Assembly. At least two cases have been detected there: the deputy LR of Haut-Rhin Jean-Luc Reitzer, and an employee of the refreshment room of the Bourbon palace, while four other people are suspect. As the parliamentary truce of the municipal elections begins on Monday, the institution is at a standstill, and the Bourbon Palace is almost deserted.

An almost empty Bourbon palace

Apart from a CM2 class that stopped in front of the busts of Olympe de Gouges and Jean Jaurès, the famous hall of the four columns is empty, and elected officials are rare in the corridors. The coincidence of the calendar which wanted the coronavirus to reach the lower house of Parliament a few hours before the suspension of work "is a chance for us", quickly slides into the microphone of Europe 1, one of the rare deputies present. But that does not prevent concern reigning within the Palace: the refreshment bar of the Assembly is "a broth of culture" says another elected official.

Disinfected restaurants and refreshments

For his part, the Haut-Rhin deputy, Bruno Fuchs, decided not to return to his constituency "before Saturday or Sunday", to protect his "fellow citizens from possible symptoms". Cautious, the latter therefore takes his temperature twice a day since Monday. And in an empty Bourbon palace for two weeks, all the restaurants and refreshments will be disinfected in the coming days.
