The Turkish forces went to immediate counter-attack after the Syrian forces opened fire, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defense. A total of 59 Turkish soldiers have now been killed during the country's Syria offensive.

All the more worried

The situation in the area has become increasingly troubled in recent times and both Syrian and Turkish soldiers have been killed in the unrest over the past week.

Turkey, which supports rebel groups in Idlib province, launched a counter-offensive against Russian-backed Syrian forces after 33 Turkish soldiers were killed in Syrian air strikes on Thursday.

Last Sunday, the Turkish military shot down two Syrian fighter planes and 19 Syrian soldiers were killed. And on Monday, another Syrian fighter aircraft, model L-39, was shot down by Turkey.

Caused refugee flows

Since the end of last year, Syrian government forces, backed by Russia, have carried out attacks in the Idlib province to expel rebel groups from the region.

The conflict has caused refugee flows from Syria to Turkey. Last Friday, Turkey announced that it will no longer impede migrants who want to travel to Europe, and since then thousands of migrants have made their way to the border between Turkey and Greece.
