The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, made a phone call today, Wednesday, with US President Donald Trump, during which they reviewed the strategic relations between the two countries and their support and enhancements in various fields.

According to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), during the call, a discussion of developments in the situation in Afghanistan took place, after the signing of the peace agreement between the United States and the Taliban, which was mediated by the State of Qatar.

The agency added that the contact also addressed a number of regional and international issues of common concern.

In a statement issued by the White House, Trump thanked the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, for his valuable role in securing the agreement between the United States and the Taliban.

The statement added that Trump and the Emir of the State of Qatar agreed during a telephone conversation between them that the Taliban should continue to reduce violence and engage them in negotiations with the Afghan government and other Afghan parties, as a step in the path of peace.

The two sides discussed bilateral and regional issues, including the need for all parties to take steps to resolve the Gulf conflict.

For his part, Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani confirmed after his discussions with German Foreign Minister Haiku Maas in Berlin that Berlin was a key partner in reaching a peace agreement between the United States and the Taliban movement signed in Doha on February 29 / Last February.

In the same press conference, Mas said that his country is coordinating with Qatar and Norway to take new steps towards completing the achievement of the peace agreement between the Taliban and the United States, explaining that these steps may include a process of exchanging prisoners, but they depend on the willingness of the parties.
