Disturbing disappearance. Sunday morning, the staff of the Lille zoo had two unpleasant surprises. The intruder visit was noted as well as the disappearance of a meerkat baby, we learned from the police. However, there is not necessarily a cause and effect link.

Police were contacted on Sunday by the management of the Lille zoo. Several elements suggested that one or more individuals had entered the park during the night. A table had been attached to the entrance gate in order to be able to pass over it and traces of suspicious steps were discovered in the enclosure of the meerkats. However, according to the police, no break-ins were found.

Either a theft or a settlement of accounts between meerkats

In addition, a meerkat baby, born the day before the facts, was missing when he should have been in the enclosure with his fellows. Despite this, still according to the police, the zoo staff does not necessarily favor the thesis of a theft of the small animal. In fact, these diurnal mammals sleep in inaccessible underground galleries. It also happens that meerkat females expecting a young kill and devour the babies of other females.

A complaint was filed and an investigation was launched to try to understand what actually happened that night.
