China News Agency, Beijing, March 3 (Reporter Chen Su) March 3 is the 7th "World Wildlife Day" of the United Nations. The National Forestry and Grassland Administration said on the 3rd that China ’s giant pandas, Zhu Xi, and Asian elephants Endangered wild animals such as Tibetan antelopes and Tibetan antelopes have reversed their downward trend, and wild plant populations such as Debao Cycas have grown steadily.

In recent years, China has continuously strengthened endangered wildlife by strengthening wildlife habitat protection and rescue breeding, severely cracking down on illegal trade in wildlife products such as ivory and other animal products, establishing a sound legal system, and establishing an active early warning and monitoring system for wildlife epidemic and disease animal protection.

According to the National Forestry and Grass Bureau, the number of Chinese giant pandas artificially breeding has reached 600, which strongly supports the restoration and reproduction of wild populations, and the number of wild giant panda populations has increased from 1,114 in the 1980s to 1,864. The Asian elephant population increased from 180 to nearly 300. The Tibetan antelope's protection level has been reduced from "endangered" to "near endangered", and the population has increased from less than 75,000 to more than 300,000. Zhu Xi increased from only 7 remaining to more than 4,000.

At the same time, China has also adopted measures such as in situ conservation, ex situ conservation, and return to nature to continue the protection of rare and endangered wild plants. At present, China has established a total of 11,800 nature reserves, and about 65% of the country's key protected wild plants and extremely small populations of wild plants are protected. Through the rescue protection of nearly a hundred species of extremely small populations of wild plants such as Debao cycad, canopy wood, Baishanzu fir, Tiantai hornbeam, Putuo hornbeam, and other endangered species, the population of some endangered species has gradually recovered.

The National Forestry and Grass Bureau said that since China joined the International Convention on Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in 1981, China has earnestly fulfilled its international obligations and adopted a series of stricter measures than CITES to improve supervision and enforcement and combat illegal trade. Significant results have been achieved in various aspects, such as advancing compliance cooperation and raising public awareness.

March 3rd is the seventh United Nations World Wildlife Day. This year, the global theme is "Sustainingalllifeonearth". The National Forestry and Grass Bureau announced that starting on the 3rd, China will carry out the “World Wildlife Day” 2020 nationwide campaign with the theme of “Maintaining a Global Community of Life”.
