A report on the Kremlin’s website says that the parties have substantively discussed issues of a settlement in Syria, taking into account the current aggravation of the situation in the Idlib de-escalation zone.

“In this context, hope is expressed for the effective holding of the upcoming Russian-Turkish summit on March 5 in Moscow,” the Kremlin said.

Also, Putin and Merkel exchanged views on the situation in Libya. The need for parties to the conflict to observe the cessation of hostilities and implement the decisions of the Berlin Conference in January was emphasized.

“Agreed on further contacts,” added the Kremlin.

Earlier, Russian President’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the leaders of Russia and Turkey, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will meet in Moscow on March 5.
