"I am extremely committed and optimistic that we can have a strong Democratic candidate who defeats Trump," said Jamiee Bensky, who moved to Malmö from California fifteen years ago.

Super Tuesday is a concept in the southern United States since 1988 when several states decided to hold the primary elections at the same time - a trend that remains today.

- This day is great here as well and I am already extremely proud of the commitment here in Malmö, says Alex Arcelay, chairman of Democrats Abroad in Skåne.

Big hopes

In Skåne, 424 people are members of Democrats Abroad, an organization that coordinates American Democrats abroad, and Alex Arcelay is expected.

- We will also be open on Saturday in Malmö and I will be very happy if 50 percent of our members cast a vote. But I'm already very proud now, he says.

An hour after the doors were opened, 22 people had voted in Malmö.

The night of Wednesday (Swedish time) votes fourteen states in the US in the Democratic primary election. Because a large number of states vote on the same day, the outcome is often decisive for which candidate to challenge the incumbent president, in this case Donald Trump.

"For us, it is a matter of course to come here and it is a privilege to have a vote," says Anja Kresojevic, who is present with her two daughters.
