More than a thousand people suspected of being infected with the Corona virus have been transferred to quarantine in Erbil Governorate, Iraqi Kurdistan, while two new cases of the virus have been recorded in Baghdad, bringing the number of cases recorded so far to 21 across the country.

The director of health in Erbil, Dilofan Muhammad, told a press conference that 1095 people had been quarantined for 14 days, noting that "some of those suspected of contracting the virus will end their quarantine next Thursday."

Erbil and Sulaymaniyah governorates earlier decided to temporarily ban condolence boards and religious events, fearing the outbreak of the Corona virus.

The Iraqi Ministry of Health had previously announced the registration of four confirmed cases of Corona virus in Sulaimaniyah, and had announced the registration of two new cases of the virus in Baghdad.

A Ministry of Health spokesman, Saif Al-Badr, said in a statement that two new confirmed cases were discovered in Baghdad for two people returning from Iran.

This brings the number of confirmed infections in Iraq to 21 since the first case appeared on February 24.

And last Wednesday, the Iraqi authorities decided to suspend studies in universities and schools, close public assembly centers for a period of 10 days, and prevent citizens from traveling to 9 countries: China, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Italy, Kuwait, and Bahrain, except for official and foreign delegations and diplomatic bodies.
