Pope Francis will not participate in the Lenten spiritual exercises with members of the Roman Curia , which will begin this Sunday and will be held until March 6, for the cold he has suffered for days, he said Sunday after the Angelus prayer.

"I ask a prayer for the spiritual exercises of the Roman Curia, which this afternoon will begin in Ariccia. Unfortunately the cold does not allow me to participate this year , I will continue from here the meditations. I spiritually join the Curia and all the people who are living moments of prayer, doing spiritual exercises at home, "said Francisco.

After the Angelus prayer, he lamented that there are so many wars in the world that force "men and children" to leave their homes, "migrants to seek refuge and help in the world."

The Pontiff appeared in the audience on Wednesday already somewhat cold and, in the afternoon, celebrated the Mass for the imposition of ash and the traditional procession from the Basilica of Santa Sabina to the Roman Church of San Anselmo, on the Roman hill of Aventine .

But the next day he chose to remain in his Residence of Santa Marta, instead of going to the penitential liturgy with the clergy of Rome in the basilica of San Juan de Letrán.

On Friday and Saturday Francisco celebrated the morning mass in Santa Marta, but canceled his planned private hearings with participants in a congress in the Vatican and members of the Legionaries of Christ, among others.
