The largest number of marriages per 1000 people in 2019 was in St. Petersburg (8.7 marriages).

Next come Sevastopol (8.4), Kamchatka (7.7), Primorsky Krai and Irkutsk Oblast (7.3 each).

The lowest rates were noted in Ingushetia (3.9), Leningrad Oblast (4.1), Dagestan and North Ossetia (4.5 each), Karachay-Cherkessia (4.6).

On average, in 2019 in Russia 6.3 marriages were made per 1000 population. Compared to 2018, the number of marriages has increased (then it was 6.2). However, in general, over the past 10 years, officially registering relationships has become less common. So, in 2009, 8.46 marriages were concluded per 1,000 people in Russia.

This trend is explained by the reduction in the number of Russians who have reached the traditional age of marriage, said Sergey Shulgin, Deputy Head of the International Laboratory for Demography and Human Capital, Institute of Applied Economic Research, RANEPA.

“The last most numerous generation is the generation of the late 80s. He was replaced by a small generation of the 90s, and now this generation is now at the age when people traditionally marry. This age, conditionally, from 25 to 35 years. Now more and more small generation is entering this age, ”the expert noted.
