  • On February 27, 2015, the body of Maureen Jacquier, a 19-year-old young woman, was found riddled with 63 stab wounds in her studio in Les Minimes in Toulouse.
  • Charged four months after the murder, Sylvain Boulais, 29, was sentenced in 2019 to 30 years in prison for the murder of his colleague at Airbus.
  • The accused, who has always shouted his innocence, has appealed this conviction and is therefore being tried on appeal until 6 March in Montauban.

On January 25, 2019, he was sentenced to thirty years' imprisonment for the murder of his colleague, Maureen Jacquier, by the Assize Court of Haute-Garonne. This Monday, Sylvain Boulais, 29, appeared on appeal for this homicide before the Assize Court of Montauban.

Until March 6, jurors will reexamine this complex file to shed light on the death of this 19-year-old young woman, whose body was found stabbed with 63 stab wounds on February 27, 2015 in her apartment in Les Minimes in Toulouse.

A new test for the family of Maureen

This mechanic on the Airbus assembly lines had been arrested and charged four months after the murder, in particular after the discovery of DNA traces belonging to him at the young woman's home. During the investigation, Sylvain Boulais had admitted having sex with Maureen one evening but he always shouted his innocence.

For Georges Catala, lawyer for the parents and two sisters of Maureen, “this new trial is one more test for this family who suffers in silence. He is a 100% guilty man who will challenge a certain number of evidence such as DNA traces or the time of Maureen's death. There is nothing new: Maureen died between two and three in the morning. All the demonstrations show that it can only be Sylvain Boulais. "

Doubtful evidence for the defense

Elements far from convincing the defenders of the accused, who point to a miscarriage of justice. "If the jurors take the oath and remember that the doubt should benefit the accused, then Sylvain Boulais cannot be condemned because all the arguments put forward to convince of his guilt are doubtful, assures Simon Cohen, his counsel. In this case, all the signals are on and indicate certainty, insufficient evidence. ”

To justify the presence of the DNA of the alleged murderer in the victim's home, the lawyer wants to demonstrate that the DNA resists washing. "This reveals his visit to Maureen but it does not allow us to say when, how and for what purpose", argues Simon Cohen, who notes that no other genetic fingerprint was discovered on the accused or at his house. Another gray area: the hour of the murder. If it took place in the middle of the night, the lawyer wonders why no one heard anything. Convinced that the young woman was killed in the morning, he relies on the testimony of two neighbors of Maureen who claim to have met him in the morning around 10 am.

Sylvain Boulais faces life imprisonment.
