The rains have not stopped falling on Congo-Brazzaville, where the government counts no less than 213,000 victims of the floods. After the North, Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire, the two main agglomerations of the country are also affected. The $ 30.5 million emergency plan devised by aid workers has so far received only $ 7 million.

Thirty years old, Magui, fled his home in the sixth arrondissement to find himself in a host family. This weekend, she returned to visit her house, which no longer looks like anything. " It's been two months since my family and I left home, " she says. We found it completely empty : everything was washed away by rainwater. "

Magui is one of the thousands of victims of Brazzaville registered by the government, which has identified others in Pointe-Noire, the economic capital . Across the country, their numbers have increased dramatically, according to Christian Aboké-Ndza, chief of staff at the Ministry of Humanitarian Action. The assessments that we carried out here, in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire, lead us today to say that we have gone from 170,000 to 213,000 people affected. The claims are real. "

On the ground, the World Food Program has been providing assistance since the government declared a natural disaster.

" WFP has already distributed over 1,890 tonnes of food products to more than 115,000 people," said Jean-Martin Bauer , WFP representative in the Congo. We also distributed more than 200 million CFA francs (more than 300,000 euros, note) via a cash transfer system. "

Humanitarian workers believe that the scale of the crisis and its duration over time have been underestimated.

The recent #Congo floods devastated key crops such as cassava and plantain. As people in affected areas are getting back on their feet, many will require food support until the next harvest at the end of the year. pic.twitter.com/yBydd3cpoa
