The document was signed by US Special Representative for Afghanistan and the head of the delegation at the talks Zalmay Khalilzad and Taliban political leader Mullah Abdul Gani Baradar. Representatives of more than 30 countries attended the signing ceremony.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo noted that this "agreement was the result of many efforts."

“By this we confirm that Afghanistan will never be a base for terrorists,” Pompeo added.

According to the agreement, the United States "will reduce the number of troops in Afghanistan from 12 thousand to 8.6 thousand people in 135 days, and after that they will continue to withdraw all American forces and NATO forces for 14 months if the Taliban refrain from violence."

The document notes that US troops "will be withdrawn from Afghanistan within 14 months in exchange for the Taliban's refusal to use the country's territory to attack the United States and other countries."

Previously, the Pentagon reported that the Taliban discussed an agreement to reduce the level of violence in Afghanistan.
