The statement said that Guterres stressed the need to continue to reduce violence in Afghanistan for the benefit of all Afghans. He encouraged all parties to continue their efforts to create an enabling environment for internal negotiations and a comprehensive peace process in Afghanistan.

Guterres also expressed the hope that the peaceful aspirations of the Afghan people will be achieved through an inclusive process led by the Afghans, and that Afghan women and young people will be involved in this process.

The U.S. and the Taliban in Afghanistan signed a peace agreement aimed at ending the war in Afghanistan in Doha, Qatar. According to the agreement, the United States will begin to gradually reduce the number of US troops stationed in Afghanistan, and foreign troops stationed in Afghanistan are expected to withdraw within 14 months. The Taliban promised that Afghanistan would no longer be a shelter for terrorists.
