The post-electoral tug-of-war is further strengthened with two presidents: the President of the National Assembly, Cipriano Cassama, was invested last night as interim president by part of the deputies. For them, the nomination organized by Umaro Sissoco Embalo, Thursday in a hotel in the capital, is not legal. But the latter settled in the presidential palace.

The national anthem resounds in the hemicycle under the Bissau-Guinean flag. In white boubou, the president of the Assembly Cipriano Cassama is invested in the presence of Prime Minister Aristide Gomes.

He announced that he would act as interim until the settlement of electoral disputes by the Supreme Court. According to Malam Fati, MP for PAIGC, this is what the Constitution provides for in the event of a vacancy in power. Outgoing President José Mario Vaz has left office.

But the presidential palace is indeed occupied by Umaro Sissoco Embalo who sacked the Prime Minister last night and appointed in his place Nuno Gomes Nabiam, candidate who came third in the first round of the presidential election.

Umaro Sissoco Embalo can count on the support of part of the army. The soldiers closed yesterday evening the government palace which houses the main ministries, the courthouse, and now occupy public radio and television.
