World kilometer champion in 2019, Quentin Lafargue did not manage to keep his title on Friday at the Berlin track cycling world championships, but he nevertheless adorned himself with money in front of his compatriot Michaël D'Almeida.

The victory went to Dutchman Sam Ligtlee, 22, author of a time of 59.495 seconds, who brought his country his fourth gold medal in two days.

These medals are however the first two for the French delegation.

Lafargue failed at 254/1000 Ligtlee, after setting the fastest qualifying time early in the afternoon, in 59.324 seconds.

The kilometer, once the benchmark discipline in track cycling, has not been on the Olympic program since 2008.
