The Swedish Transport Administration leaves Mellansel - project office is relocated

The Swedish Transport Administration is planning a relocation of its office in Mellansel to Örnsköldsvik - the agency sees several benefits in gathering operations in the central city. Local association Bygdsam Anundsjö does not agree: - The state should not take jobs from the countryside, but rather contribute more, says chairman Patrik Eriksson.

According to the Swedish Transport Administration, a move to Örnsköldsvik facilitates the recruitment of skills and creates a larger catchment area through better communications.

"A relocation also enables co-location with other Traffic Administration operations," says Staffan Ökvist, Head of the Northern Maintenance District.

Rural Anundsjö warns against government jobs disappearing from the resort with about 800 inhabitants.

- It feels really strange. Intermediate is a major thoroughfare and hub for the railway, which is why the office was located here. Those who work here also live here, says Patrik Eriksson, who together with his colleagues in the association is planning a letter to the Swedish Transport Administration.

The office, which today has four employees locally, has an area of responsibility from Vännäs in the north to Långsele in the south.
