According to RIA Novosti, at a hearing in Congress, Democrat Seth Mullton inquired whether the Americans could repel the attack from Russia and China.

Richards replied that the country's missile defense was designed to “not interfere with strategic deterrents,” and was able to defend the territory.

Congressman asked a clarifying question whether the ability to repulse such an attack is related to the number of interceptor missiles.

“This is not only costly and unrealizable from a technical point of view, but also raises issues of strategic stability,” the admiral replied.

According to him, the American missile defense is based on the fact that a retaliatory strike will inflict such damage on the enemy that the attack will become meaningless.

Earlier, Congressional Research Services concluded that Washington was inferior to Moscow in improving nuclear weapons.
