When the Great Patriotic War began, she was sixteen years old. Near Leningrad, Zoya Pavlovna survived the most terrible winter of the blockade.

Father died of starvation in her arms. Following him died mother and grandmother.

Zoya Pavlovna attended the Red Cross courses and became a nurse in a military field hospital. She met victory in Germany.
