The preferred track remains food poisoning. Thursday evening, 28 people in their sixties living at the Cascades campsite in Luz-Saint-Sauveur, in the Hautes-Pyrénées, showed signs of gastroenteritis.

Fourteen people, from two distinct groups and mostly adolescents, were evacuated to the hospitals of Tarbes and Lourdes.

Important means of rescue

"One group came from Haute-Vienne, the other from Landes but they were installed on two adjoining sites, with a common catering area," explains Didier Carponcin, sub-prefect of Argelès-Gazost, at 20 Minutes . During the night of Wednesday to Thursday, there was a first case of a teenager with vomiting, then three cases Thursday afternoon which did not require hospitalization. It was Thursday evening that the number of cases accelerated.

Significant emergency resources were put in place around the campsite on Thursday evening, including the intervention of 36 firefighters.

Three young people still hospitalized

"Two teenagers left the hospital on Friday morning and that should be the case for nine others on Friday afternoon," said the sub-prefect. Three young people stay in the hospital for additional exams. ”

Agents from the Departmental Directorate of Social Cohesion and Population Protection Services, responsible for the administrative investigation, took samples of the food eaten by adolescents to determine the cause of this poisoning.
