Two children of the woman in Diemen who is infected with the corona virus, have mild health problems. Tests have yet to show whether they are also affected by the virus, it appeared at a press conference on Friday. As a precaution, contact investigations are conducted at a daycare center, a primary school in Amsterdam and the Amsterdam UMC (location AMC).
The woman is registered in the municipality of Amsterdam and lives with her three children and husband in a temporary home in Diemen. Two of the children show minor symptoms. The status of the partner was not disclosed.
Tests were conducted on all family members on Friday morning. The results are expected on Friday evening or Saturday morning.

Woman visited daycare center and primary school
One of the children who has complaints was in a daycare center in the Amsterdam Zuidoost district (CompaNanny Atlas Arena). On the day the child received complaints, it was picked up at the daycare center. According to the GGD, the child is doing well. "At the moment the complaints are mild," said Gonne's Yvonne van Duijnhoven.
Because the woman has recently been at the day care center, contact research is being conducted by the GGD. This must show whether employees and / or children are at risk.
The woman also attended a second school, Laterna Magica in the IJburg district. Contact research is also done here. Whether this concerns the school where the second child has minor complaints has not been announced. No statements are made about a third school, because the woman herself has not been there.
The daycare center will be closed for the next two weeks due to possible contamination, but primary school will not. According to Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema, the closure was a decision of the day care center itself, not on the advice of the Amsterdam GGD. "There is no reason to do so at the moment," Halsema said at the press conference.
A contact investigation is also being conducted at the Amsterdam UMC (location AMC), where the infected woman was employed. The woman did not work there directly with the patients, but had an administrative function. The hospital itself carries out a contact investigation in the workplace.
Municipalities do not take additional measures
As yet there is no cause for concern, Halsema emphasizes. "Thorough research is being done." Duijnhoven of the GGD adds that the virus is "not very contagious".
No additional measures are being taken in the municipalities of Amsterdam and Diemen. All events and sports activities can continue as usual. However, Halsema reminds people that they "must take into account the general precautions of the GGD".
The COVID-19 virus (coronavirus) in short:
- The virus spreads mainly through cough and sneeze drops that hang in the air for a short time. Anyone who shows no symptoms is hardly a risk of infection.
- Someone can infect two or three others on average (less than, for example, measles). However, this figure is falling due to all precautions.
- The vast majority have mild (flu-like) symptoms.
- Almost all deaths concern older or already sick people.
