by Tiziana Di Giovannandrea February 28, 2020 The situation of the former Ilva, current ArcelorMittal, is always somewhat confused, with the constant references relating to the possible agreement between the parties that have been discussed for some time. Yesterday's news is the probable, and given for imminent, agreement between commissioners of the former Ilva in extraordinary administration and the representatives of the French-Indian multinational, but no signature has been made. The only certainty was the postponement of the meeting between the commissioners and Mittal.

Premier Conte calls institutional table at Palazzo Chigi
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, has convened the institutional table for Taranto on 5 March at Palazzo Chigi.
The Table brings together ministries, Municipalities of the environmental crisis area of Taranto, Puglia Region, Taranto Port Authority and Province of Taranto. It was reconstituted following the Prime Minister's decree signed by Conte on 3 February. Accepting also the requests of local authorities, the table for Taranto, according to what established by the Dpcm, passes to Palazzo Chigi while before it was at Mise. The table aims to overcome the "many critical issues affecting the Taranto area". It also has the task of concerting actions and strategies useful for the purpose. In anticipation of the convocation of March 5, the Prime Minister has forwarded to the various interested parties also the text of the Dpcm on the "new" Taranto Table as well as the text of the request advanced by the extraordinary commissioners Ilva, Francesco Ardito, Alessandro Danovi and Antonio Lupo, "to authorize the signing of the transaction of the lease modification agreement and of the other agreements with the companies of the ArcelorMittal group".

This is the text that then facilitates the way to the new agreement between Ilva in extraordinary administration and ArcelorMittal which should be signed next week.

Mayor of Taranto, Rinaldo Melucci signs ordinance
The Mayor of Taranto Rinaldo Melucci signed, on the day of February 27, an order with which he ordered ArcelorMittal and the former Ilva to identify the plants affected by the "emissive phenomena" harmful to health, which continue to be recorded and to eliminate "any critical elements and related anomalies within 30 days" otherwise it will close.
The mayor's order depended on the fact that in recent days a very strong wind has raised the polluting dust of the ex Ilva plant by transporting it and depositing it in some neighborhoods of the city.

Directors and manager announce appeal to the TAR
The extraordinary commissioners Ilva, Francesco Ardito, Alessandro Danovi and Antonio Lupo, have reserved the contested order of the mayor to the Tar with which they are given to ArcelorMittal (manager of the steel plants) and to Ilva in extraordinary administration (owner of the plants) 30 days to identify and resolve critical issues related to polluting factory emissions. The commissioners of the former Ilva in Extraordinary Administration defined the urgent and contingent order signed by the mayor of Taranto, Rinaldo Melucci, as "illegitimate, inappropriate and disproportionate".

The mayor of Taranto replied: "I take note of the statements of the commissioners, I imagine they will be able to adequately support them in the relevant offices. I feel on the right side, the part of health, for which I have responsibility are with my fellow citizens and the children of Taranto".
