Elections in Guinea: the ECOWAS renounces the deployment of an observation mission

The ECOWAS press release, signed by Niamey, is dated February 27, 2020, so this Thursday. He returned to information disseminated by RFI and the cancellation of a high-level mission sent to Guinea.

This mission " of goodwill, " said the press release, led by Mahamadou Issoufou, President-in-Office of the ECOWAS, accompanied by his counterparts from Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Ghana notably aimed to meet this Friday Alpha Condé. But the Guinean president put forward, explains the organization, certain commitments and constraints related to the electoral calendar.

We also learn in this press release that the ECOWAS has given up on deploying an election observation mission. The reasons given point to " the existence of certain factors which suggest that the situation on the spot is not free from all risks ", in the words of the press release.
