Returning from Venice, the mayor of Voreppe, near Grenoble, candidate for his own succession, is forced to stay at home for two weeks and continue his campaign from a distance. "It is an additional experience, which must be taken like that", reacts the city councilor, philosopher, to Europe 1.

INTERVIEW

"It's frustrating, for sure, but you have to do it against good fortune." Luc Rémond is in a singular situation to say the least. The mayor of Voreppe, in Isère, is a candidate for his own succession, but he is forced to stay at home for 14 days, due to the epidemic of coronavirus. The city councilor came back from Venice on Monday, where he spent four days with his wife for Carnival. It is therefore confined, as recommended by the Ministry of Health for people returning from risk areas.

"It is an additional experience, which must be taken like that", reacts, philosopher, the mayor of this town of nearly 9,000 inhabitants located near Grenoble. "I limit contacts as much as possible, I have a stock of masks. I mainly do telework, meetings that I can by phone. Otherwise, I have very competent team members who will distribute the papers and who are everything fully capable of replacing me, including in the countryside. "

The first round of municipal elections taking place on March 15, Luc Rémond can therefore only campaign on the ground for a short week. "Every day, either I will meet people, or I will go to the neighborhoods. It will be the intensity of the last week," smiles the elected official. "The Voreppins have understood the problem. I have received a lot of messages from each other that show that they understand the situation," he said.
