  • Saturday, several groups will demonstrate against the upsurge in air pollution around Toulouse-Blagnac airport.
  • Experiments with new air corridors in the north, but also in the south and west, are widely criticized by new populations affected by aircraft noise.

In less than a year, the number of air pollution complaints has exploded in the Toulouse conurbation. In Daux, a town north of the Pink City, the association that leads the slingshot has registered no less than 10,500 complaints since November and organized a demonstration last Tuesday.

In the West, the “Plaisance air corridor” collective counted nearly 10,000 in a few weeks. He calls this Saturday for a joint demonstration against the new trajectories of planes at Toulouse-Blagnac airport tested since last year by the directorate of civil aviation security South. Its members were received Wednesday by aviation security officials.

"Put in front of the fait accompli ..."

“They explained to us that this change in trajectory was due to security reasons but also to the implementation of satellite navigation. We, we were faced with a fait accompli and it is the triple penalty because we already have military and business aviation flights from Francazal. We are not against air traffic, but not so that it is removed from certain areas at the expense of others ", notes Marjorie Bataille from the Plaisance collective to whom the authorities have indicated that a new phase in the trajectory committed.

In Lara, Daux and Grenade, north of Toulouse, the observation is the same, even if the change of air corridor was the subject of a public inquiry there last year, with the aim of flying over a less urbanized area when the wind of Autan blows and relieve a part of the population of Merville. "In Daux, only 34 people were to be affected by this change ... We were told about experimentation, at first we were told that it should take place from May to December 2019, then we were told that it would be until in July, then September. Do you think that in six to nine months they do not have enough data for their experimentation? We have the feeling that the decision has already been made, ”deplores Jean-Marc Sanchez of Daux Environnement.

Like him, many of them rail against this measure, which impacts residents who had chosen to settle in this commune in part because it was not overflown by planes. “There, at 6 am, we have them every two minutes. Not to mention Airbus test flights or low cost airlines for which a new line is announced every week. We have pilots in our association and we know that technical solutions exist, whether at the altitude or the take-off slope, ”continues the resident, who saw the level of decibels rise as aircraft passed.

Anger that Chantal Beer-Demand hears and knows well. She has chaired the collective against air pollution in the Toulouse conurbation for years and fought for a curfew to be imposed at Toulouse-Blagnac airport. His association has also seen an explosion in the number of complaints. “There were 150 five years ago and there we will reach 10,000, it is not only a few excited. The problem is that the direction of civil aviation gropes according to projections of affected populations and not on the basis of measurements made by sensors. They also act according to whoever shouts the loudest and the population discovers it afterwards, ”deplores the one who also chairs the French Union against the nuisance of aircraft.

On Saturday, his association will be alongside the other collectives to request that the experiments be stopped "and that we reflect so that we are all winners".

Information on changes

Last December, Etienne Guyot, the prefect of Haute-Garonne "asked that any change in trajectories be the subject of prior information from all the mayors concerned and that the effects be measured and shared".

During this meeting, the representative of the State announced the launch of a balanced approach "which aims to allow control and mitigation of noise pollution generated by air traffic".
