At the same time as the criminal cases are increasing, the Malmö District Court's staff has decreased.

- We have been forced to cut staff. For example, 28 notaries have turned 24, says Eva Wendel Rosberg.

And the lack of staff is noticeable.

- The waiting times for trials have become longer. In some cases, we have had to postpone litigation because we did not have enough staff, says Eva Wendel Rosberg.

Increased labor costs

Malmö District Court's budget for 2020 is slightly larger than the budget for 2019. However, according to Eva Wendel Rosberg, the budget has not taken into account increased salary costs and the increased number of goals. Prior to 2019, they also inherited a minus result, something they also did before 2020.

According to Eva Wendel Rosberg, the budget changed last year in the middle of the current year, something she was not prepared for.

- I have never been involved in reducing the budget in the middle of an ongoing budget year, she says.

From 2015 to 2019, the number of criminal cases has increased from 4,052 to 5,102. During the same period, the Malmö District Court's budget has increased from SEK 100,659,000 to SEK 106,005,000.
