The sandbags are distributed in collaboration with the municipality of Ljungby and all residents of the municipality can retrieve sandbags free of charge to protect their properties when further rainfall is expected, says rescue manager Carl Håkansson.

The sandbags weigh 25 kilograms each and are a way for the rescue service to help the residents prepare for water and groundwater levels to increase further.

Colder weather can cause problems

- The snow can have a positive effect if it is left behind, but if it melts it is, after all, rainfall as precipitation, says Carl Håkansson.

At the same time, minus degrees can also set it because the water expands when it freezes and thus the water level can be raised further for that reason, he says.

The situation remains critical

- We see that the water level is increasing in some places, including Helge å, while the water levels are constant in other places and in some places the water levels are also expected to decline, says Carl Håkansson.

- Right now we are working on planning so that we can cope with more water if there is more rainfall, but of course we hope that it will not come more now.
