The hospital's plan to terminate 75 care workers has drawn strong criticism from many directions. So the hospital's CEO Mikael Runsiö announces in an e-mail to DN that they are returning from the notification.

- We have succeeded in solving the redundancy for healthcare personnel with natural resignation and repositioning, which feels very good, says Mikael Runsiö, CEO of Södersjukhuset, in a press release.

"A job well done"

The Financial Region Council Irene Svenonius welcomes the message from the Southern Hospital.

- This shows that our hospitals can cope with a difficult but necessary change in care. It's a job well done by everyone involved. Today's message gives the hospital and its staff the opportunity to fully focus on developing collaboration within and outside the hospital to reduce waiting times in the emergency, ”says Irene Svenonius (M).

Uncertainty for the summer

Trade unions Municipal and Saco confirm to DN that the notifications have been withdrawn. But the savings are still noticeable, says Clara Strömberg, chair of Saco at the Southern Hospital.

- You do not extend the substitute for 24 sub-doctors, and vacate about 20 specialists. I don't know how to manage the summer, she tells DN.

In addition to the 75 care services, 25 people with administrative tasks would also be terminated. What happens to them is still unclear.

This weekend, Södersjukhuset went into staff position due to high load, and the emergency room was described as chaotic.

Needed to save 300 million

It was in November 2019 that Södersjukhuset first announced that they must save SEK 300 million in 2020 and therefore staff were notified of termination. It would involve 50 nurses, 25 doctors and 25 administrative services.

"Notifying a reduction in services is a powerful measure and I understand that it awakens the feelings of our employees," said Mikael Runsiö, CEO of Södersjukhuset, in a press release in November.

Introduced employment stoppage

In the past, the hospital has carried out employment stops as well as stops for hired staff. Those measures remain.

- We still have a strained financial situation and work is continuing with our financial action program, but we can now see that the number of employees is not increasing at the same rate as before and that the cost increase rate has decreased somewhat, says Mikael Runsiö in a press release from the hospital.
