As the number of coronavirus infections rises, the demand for necessary protective equipment for health care professionals is increasing.

A potential deficiency has proven to be approved respiratory protection.

- The entire hospital has made every effort to obtain more respiratory protection. It is difficult for demand is huge, both nationally and internationally, says Erik Salaneck, infectious physician at the Academic University Hospital.

Used in several industries

Respiratory protection is not only needed in infectious care, but is found in several different industries. They are used, among other things, by construction workers, car painters and welders.

- The good thing is that you can find them in other places than in healthcare. We work really hard to get more, says Erik Salaneck.

Don't bunker

But resources are not endless and high pressure means they run out. At present, there are two types of respiratory protection that are internationally approved for healthcare professionals - so-called FFP2 and FFP3.

- We urge the public not to bunk these, the healthcare needs these resources, says Erik Salaneck.

How many do you currently have?

- It is difficult to answer, but we have enough to care for quite a few patients for several days.
