2019 - An international donor conference for Yemen in Geneva generates around 2.3 billion euros. 24 million people in the Arab civil war are in need of help. In 2018 alone, around 52,000 children under the age of five are said to have died of hunger or preventable diseases.

2018 - An overwhelming majority of CDU party congresses in Berlin vote for a new edition of the grand coalition. The previous Prime Minister of Saarland, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, will be the new Secretary General of the party.

2015 - A court in Oldenburg sentenced ex-nurse Niels Högel from Delmenhorst to life in prison for killing five patients. The 38-year-old had admitted up to 30 patient murders. In 2019 he will be convicted of murder in 85 cases by the Oldenburg Regional Court.

2000 - The Austrian bomber Franz Fuchs, who had spread fear and terror for years with pipe and letter bombs, commits suicide in his prison cell in Graz.

1995 - Baring, Britain's oldest commercial bank, collapses due to multi-billion dollar speculation by currency trader Nick Leeson.

1935 - The Nazi government violates the provisions of the Versailles Peace Treaty by deciding to build an air force.
