On site, an aluminum scrap smelter has operated between 1971 and 1999. The smelting furnace was fired with approximately 100 liters of contaminated waste oil per day until the operation ceased.

Several toxic substances

Measurements show that the soil contains very high and hazardous levels of metals such as aluminum, lead, copper and the substance PCB. Cadmium, chromium, nickel and zinc were also measured at high levels.

The County Administrative Board and the municipality of Vaggeryd urge the public not to stay on the site and the municipality has fenced off the area.
