The Egyptian authorities imposed strict security measures on Wednesday in the vicinity of the Mosque of the Field Marshal Tantawi in preparation for the funeral of former President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak, who will be buried within hours.

A popular military funeral will be held for the late President, at the Mosque of the Field Marshal Tantawi, in the district of Fifth Settlement, east of Cairo.

Security and military sources confirmed that the funeral would be held in the presence of military and security leaders and current and former officials, and indicated that among the attendees was Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, who was heading the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, which took over the rule of Egypt after Mubarak stepped down in 2011.
