Tom Danielsson from Kalmar has been part of the test group that has had their values analyzed after completing an Ironman. He is also part of the research group that performed the tests.

- I think it is very interesting because I participate on two fronts, partly that I run the race, shared that I join the research team, he says.

Age does not seem to matter

Tom Danielsson has reached the age of 51. He has participated in a large number of different races, although he has passed 50, nothing has noticeably impaired his performance.

- What we can see in our calculations, age does not matter. Rather, I think it may have to do with the genetic. Some can handle this load while some do not, says Tom Danielsson.

This study shows an impact on the heart and skeleton. Tom wants in his future research to have the opportunity to look at what these individuals look like in maybe 20 years.

- Is it then an over-represented group when it comes to heart failure and other ailments around the heart and skeletal muscles and whatever else it may be, he wonders.
