It was after a disclosure from Aftonbladet that Jakobsson's receipts were reviewed, which led to the prosecution being brought. The charge mainly concerns taxi trips, which Jakobsson, according to the judgment, took for private purposes but written up as business trips through his role as parliamentary man. This also applies to private hotel stays, which he let the Swedish Parliament Administration in charge of.

Jakobsson, who lives in Strängnäs municipality, has constantly denied crime and claimed that he was entitled to the compensation.

He is now convicted of fraud on 39 occasions for conditional judgment and he will pay a damages to the Swedish Parliament Administration of SEK 10,761.

Prior to the 2018 election, Jakobsson chose to leave his parliamentary seat.
