February 26, 2020 From the Quaestor of the European Parliament comes the recommendation to respect a 14-day quarantine, addressed to MEPs who in the last 14 days have visited the four Italian regions considered at risk (Lombardy, Piedmont, Emilia Romagna and Veneto). These preventive measures are also recommended to the staff of the MEPs concerned.

However, the position of the European Commission is different. The contagion of the coronavirus in Italy and in the rest of the world is worrying, but according to the European Commissioner for Health, Stella Kyriakides, "we must not panic. We must be vigilant, avoid that there is bad information or xenophobic declarations that do not help citizens and endanger the work of the public authority ".

Kyriakides spoke at a joint press conference with the Italian Ministry of Health, with the participation of the director of the World Health Organization for Europe, Hans Kluge, Minister Roberto Speranza and the director of the ECDC (European Center for Prevention and disease control) Andrea Ammon.

"We understand people's concern about their health and that of their families. This does not mean that we must panic, but we must trust what the Italian government, with civil protection, and the European Commission, are doing to strengthen answers in all regions, "said WHO Europe's Hans Kluge.
