If infected with the coronavirus should be detected in Västernorrland, they will be taken care of at the county hospital in Sundsvall. The hospital has a special ward with room for a maximum of four patients, including an intensive care unit. Despite the few places, the hospital management feels that there is no cause for concern.

- We have preparedness and trained staff, we have care rooms and we have technical equipment, so no one has to worry about not being able to receive infected should this happen, says Petra Lindstedt, Head of Operations.

The situation under control

Even the infection control physician in Västernorrland thinks that the situation is under control and believes that it will be able to handle the situation even if there is a major outbreak.

"We are as prepared as you can be for such a situation," says Hans Boman, who also notes that it is possible to open reserve departments at the hospital should a need arise. Hans Boman believes that the care situation in Västernorrland is one step ahead of the affected provinces in China.

prepared

- We have the advantage of being prepared, we have known about this for almost two months. In China, a lot of people were infected when it was discovered, he notes.

Hans Boman urges anyone who suspects that they have been infected not to seek medical attention, but to contact them by phone instead. Suspected cases will then be admitted to the hospital via a special reception.
