The driver lost control of the bus when one of the tires was punctured, a police officer states on the spot. The bus was traveling on a highway when the accident occurred and crashed after a puncture into a river.

Five survivors were taken to hospital with injuries. The accident occurred in the state of Rajasthan about 50 miles south of New Dehli.

Fatal bus accidents are relatively common in India. About 150,000 people die each year in traffic accidents. The high death rates are mainly due to careless drivers, poorly maintained roads and vehicles being overloaded with passengers, AP writes.
