It was last week that Palme Prosecutor Krister Petersson went into the Week's crime and said he will present a solution to the assassination of Prime Minister Olof Palme, within the next few months. A statement that aroused both resurrection and doubt - should Petersson really succeed in what so many previous prosecutors have failed over the past 34 years?

Today, Veckan's crime can tell you that Hans Melander, the investigative leader, stands behind Petersson wholeheartedly.

- We have obviously discussed in the group with Krister, it is a decision that we have come up with in common, says Hans Melander to Veckan's crime.

Significant that police and prosecutors agree

The fact that Hans Melander goes out and says this is more important information than one can initially believe. The relationship between the various prosecutors who over the years led the investigation and the police officers who worked within it, has not always been straightforward. Many people probably remember the open conflicts that characterized the work during Hans Holmér's time, when prosecutors such as KG Svensson resigned after only three months as preliminary investigator.

Detective leader Hans Melander has been working on the investigation since 2002. He says that one still hears one and another interrogation, most recently a week ago, but he smiles mildly when he declines to comment on what it was about.

Works on a main track

But he is clear about working on a main track.

- We work with a track on which we place the main emphasis of our work, then there are other tracks that we work in parallel with.

Have a closer look at the crime scene

Melander wants to highlight how successful it was that three years ago they decided to return to the intersection Tunnelgatan / Sveavägen

- We did a fresh start with new staff and came to go back to the crime scene and look for new angles, instead of looking too much at tips and theories that are more linked to the motif image than to the event itself.

At the latest in four months, we hopefully know what the Palme investigation has reached in the days 34-year-old.
