Lavrov discussed with the UN Secretary General the situation in Syria


Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met in Geneva with UN Secretary General Antoni Guterres. The parties discussed current issues on the international agenda, including the situation in Syria.

“A substantive exchange of views took place on the most pressing issues on the international agenda, including the situation in Syria. The issues of cooperation between Russia and the UN Secretariat were considered, ”the statement on the website of the Russian diplomatic department reads.

It is specified that in the conversation special attention was paid to a memorable date - the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II and the creation of the UN.

“The parties reaffirmed their mutual commitment to strengthening the central role of the UN in world affairs and the imperative of finding answers to modern challenges and threats in strict accordance with its Charter and other norms of international law,” the Foreign Ministry added.

Earlier it was reported that Lavrov, in a meeting with Guterres, intends to discuss the situation in the Syrian province of Idlib.
