Ambassador Gui Congyou has repeatedly been called to meetings of the Foreign Ministry to discuss the situation of the imprisoned Gui Minhai. Following the announcement that the publisher was sentenced to ten years in prison by the Chinese court, it was time again.

- We are now looking for information on exactly what happened. We have today called China's ambassador to Stockholm to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and repeated what we have said for a long time; that Gui Minhai must be released, says Ann Linde, at a press conference in Berlin.

Do not want to send the ambassador home

Gui Minhai was sentenced because, according to the Chinese court, he has provided foreign power with intelligence, which has aroused strong reactions from the Swedish side.

When SVT asks Ann Linde what she thinks about the demands of several Swedish party leaders that China's ambassador to Stockholm should now be sent home, she responds:

- I think it's good to have contact roads open. The fact that we were able to call the ambassador in Stockholm and direct our demands directly shows the benefit of having the ambassador in Stockholm.

How do you see the criticism from party leaders that the Swedish government has done too little to get international support for Gui Minhai's release?

- I am now in Berlin where the German Foreign Minister just stated clear support for the Swedish action for Gui Minhai. We have previously received support from Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron and others within the EU. I think that such criticism shows that we have not understood all the contacts we have had, says Ann Linde.
